Chelsea Steps Up Pursuit For Fernandez Alternative, Arsenal’s Record Caicedo Bid & 5 Other Transfer News Of The Day

Infoexpert24 rounds up the latest transfer news, rumors, and gossip making rounds in the world of football today Thursday 26th January 2023.
Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana who is considered an ideal alternative to Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, per The Times’ Paul Joyce.
Onana has been superb for Everton this season with his all-action style of play. He’s currently among the top 10 best tacklers in the Premier League this season, per stats by the league – no Chelsea midfielder is in that category.
His fine form saw him represent Belgium at the World Cup in Qatar where he performed well.
Everton signed Onana from Lille for €35m from Lille last summer and are expected to try and keep him as they against battle relegation.

Barca ready to sell Raphinha next summer
Barcelona have told the Brazilian that he could be put on the transfer list if he doesn’t improve in the second half of the season.
Barcelona paid just £50m to sign Raphinha from Leeds last summer which means the Blaugrana could get double their money’s worth in just six months if Arsenal decides to pay.

Arsenal’s Record Caicedo Bid
Fabrizio Romano thinks Arsenal could yet make a “surprise” bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo before the end of the January transfer window.
The Gunners have been very active in the winter market already with Leandro Trossard arriving from Brighton, after they missed out on Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea, while Jakub Kiwior has joined from Spezia.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted publicly that they are looking to bring in some midfield cover before the end of the window but he’s not sure whether it will be achievable.
Arteta told a press conference on Wednesday: “Well, we need some more cover in midfield ideally if we can. In this market, it’s pretty complicated to do that.
“The most important thing is that we get the performances and the time on the pitch that we need with the players we have available today that are already really good.
“If there’s anything else available that can make us better we’ll look at it.
“I don’t think he (Mohamed Elneny) will be [available for Friday]. He had some issues with his knee that we are assessing at the moment and we will have to see how he evolves in the next couple of days.
“There are concerns, especially (because) Mo is a player who never complains about anything. But let’s see.”
And they have been linked with a number of midfieders in recent weeks and months but two players have come up more than most in the last few days.
They are Caicedo at Brighton – who has been heavily linked with a number of clubs including Chelsea and Liverpool – and Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
And now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says “don’t rule out surprise late Arsenal transfer bid” for Caicedo with the Gunners “exploring” a possible deal.
Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Arsenal are one of the three clubs exploring the potential Moises Caicedo deal after he changed agents. Chelsea and Liverpool are also being kept informed on the player.
“I wouldn’t exclude anything happening in the final days, after last summer Arsenal tried on Deadline Day for Douglas Luiz out of nothing. Let’s see for Caicedo, it’s important to underline that Brighton have no intention to sell unless they receive an important bid.”

Ferran Torres on Atletico Madrid radar
Atletico Madrid will reportedly look to sign Spanish attacker Ferran Torres from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Ferran Torres is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid. The Colchoneros are keeping tabs on the Spaniard’s situation at FC Barcelona. And they will look to secure the services of the player if Yannick Carrasco joins the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window.
Ferran Torres has endured a frustrating twelve months since joining Barcelona from Manchester City. The 22-year-old joined Barcelona in a big-money deal worth €55 million. But he has fallen down the pecking order this season following the arrival of Raphinha and the re-emergence of Ousmane Dembele.
The Spanish international has not even completed 1,000 minutes of game time thus far. But he has a decent tally of five goals and one assist in those outings. However, Torres’s Barcelona future is up in the air, and he might depart from Spotify Camp Nou in the summer. Such a situation has captured the attention of Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid recently signed a player from Barcelona, bringing Memphis Depay to Civitas Metropolitano. But they might enter the market for another offensive reinforcement amid uncertainties surrounding Yannick Carrasco’s future. Interestingly, the Belgian international features on Barcelona’s radar.
And recent reports have claimed that the chances of the Blaugrana signing the 29-year-old are highly likely. And Ferran Torres will become Atletico Madrid’s option to replace Carrasco if he joins Barcelona in the summer. And the decision to closely monitor the Spanish international’s situation is understandable.
While Torres will not be a like-for-like replacement for Carrasco, he has the quality to be a dominant wide attacker for Atletico Madrid with his directness. In addition, essentially swapping Carrasco and Torres should work well for Atletico and Barcelona, with both clubs financially stricken.
Barcelona will not sell the 22-year-old in January. So any deal will have to wait until the summer transfer window. And it will be interesting to see if Torres’s situation improves in the coming months. If not, it will not be surprising to see him join Atletico Madrid, with Carrasco moving to Camp Nou.
