The University of Stavanger (abbreviated UiS) is the fifth university in Norway established in 2004 when the University College of Stavanger (HiS) was granted university status, it’s also on the list of tuition-free universities.

The university has 10,888 students and 1,372 members and is organized into threefaculties: The Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Technology.


The Archaeological Museum is also part of the university.

The university campus is in Ullandhaug in Stavanger and most of the housing andfaculties are also located here.

AtStavangerUniversity, crossing national, linguistic, and cultural borders is highly valued. 12% of all students come from outside Norway, and they offer a total of 23 study programs in English in a variety of fields. In addition, the majority of the Norwegian population speaks English, which facilitates off-campus communication.

The University of Oslo offers English-taught postgraduate programs ranging from courses such as fluid mechanics and social anthropology to law of the sea.

In arguably one of the most expensive countries to live in, you can work up to 20 hours a week to earn a living, which gives you ample opportunity to practice your Norwegian.

Pay the registration fees, and you will be exempted from taking the IELTS or TOEFL tests if you can prove that you have sufficient knowledge of English from your previous studies.

You don’t need to be fluent in the Icelandic language; both Master’s and Doctoral programs are available here.
