Despite Mbappe’s best efforts, Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez came up supreme in the shootouts, saving from Kingsley Coman with Aurelien Tchoumaneni missing another.
Les Blues appeared done and out in the first half courtesy of goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, only for Mbappe to turn the game on its head with a quickfire brace in the 80th minute.
Messi thought he had won the game for his side in the second half of extra time, only for Mbappe to step up again and equalise from the penalty spot and bag his hat-trick.
At only 23 years of age, he is expected to play in a couple more World Cups in future. However, he did bag the Golden Boot after he finished with eight goals, one better than his PSG teammate Messi.
