Mauricio Pochettino Fumes Over Chelsea Duo in Dressing Room ‘Leak’ Saga
Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly angry with two of his players after their disappointing season following a dressing room leak.
With a blockbuster summer transfer spree, Chelsea fans anticipated a resurgence under Pochettino but alas, the 23/24 campaign has been a bitter pill to swallow, with the Blues languishing in ninth place , 16 points off fifth-placed Aston Villa and a huge 27 points adrift of leaders Arsenal, a stark contrast to their lofty aspirations.
Reports now emerge of Pochettino’s frustration boiling over, directed squarely at two of his underperforming players
According to Football Insider, Chelsea coaching staff are frustrated with a lack of impact from wingers Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling.
Mudryk has only scored six goals and three assists in 33 appearances this season, which is less than expected after his £88 million move to the club in 2023. While Sterling has made 38 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea during the 23/24 campaign, managing eight goals and eight assists.
It has also been reported that as a result, Chelsea will be in the market for a new winger when the summer transfer window opens.
.Speaking after their 2-2 draw against bottom side Sheffield United, Pochettino said: “It is about being able to compete. For different reasons we are struggling to compete in these type of games [against lesser teams].
“Maybe [it is] because this group is not mature enough to compete in games every three days.”
He added: “It is a new team with profiles in the squad that we are learning,” said the Chelsea boss. “That is why the process to build a team always takes time. It is not a magic thing [clicks fingers].
“When we talk about projects, we talk about three or five years. It is a normal process but we are working to fix this type of problem. When we arrive at the end of the season, we need to analyse the squad to see what we are missing and try to add people with the capacity to provide [solutions for] what we are seeing today.”
Chelsea considering £43m summer move for Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams
Nico Williams is undoubtedly one of the La Liga players attracting the most attention ahead of the upcoming transfer window. However, the Spanish winger had already aroused interest in Premier League clubs months ago.
According toThe Telegraph, the 21-year-old has a release clause of approximately £43 million ($54.6m) but it is believed the winger earns upwards of £100,000-a-week after tax in Spain – which would make him one of the Blues’ top earners.
While Chelsea arguably need an out-and-out striker, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko among their top targets, Williams has impressed the west London outfit following his six goals and 11 assists this season.
However, if he did sign for the Blues, this could place question marks around the futures of fellow widemen Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk. Moreover, with profit and sustainability rules, Chelsea may have to sell before they can buy this summer.
Williams – who has a contract with Athletic Club until 2027 – has made 11 appearances for Spain, scoring two goals in the process. Arsenal are reportedly among the list of admirers for the youngster, who has been at Bilbao since 2013.
