Manchester United Suffers Injury Blow Ahead of FA Cup Final Against Man City Today

Manchester United has received a significant setback ahead of the highly anticipated FA Cup final against Manchester City, as winger Antony is unlikely to feature due to an ankle injury, confirmed by manager Erik ten Hag.

During the pre-match press conference, Ten Hag acknowledged that the Brazilian player is unlikely to recover in time for the clash at Wembley this weekend.

Antony sustained the injury during the match against Chelsea last week, and despite his best efforts, his progress has been limited.

This news follows the absence of striker Anthony Martial, who suffered a hamstring tear in the recent game against Fulham. The absence of both key players poses a challenge for Manchester United as they prepare to face their formidable rivals.

Regarding Antony’s availability, Ten Hag expressed, “It is unlikely that he [Antony] is available. He still has a chance, but a really small chance as he didn’t make progress. I am always asked about the absence of players, but it is about the players who are available, and many times we were successful.”

Despite the setbacks, Ten Hag remained optimistic about the team’s chances, emphasizing the depth of the squad and their collective effort in reaching the final.

“We have a good squad, and from the good squad, we make a good team. We deserve that opportunity to be in a cup final and meet Manchester City; it is a great opportunity, and we fought so hard for it,” Ten Hag added.

Antony, who joined Manchester United from Ajax last summer, has had a mixed debut season with the club. The 23-year-old winger, acquired for a reported fee of £100 million, has contributed eight goals and three assists across 44 appearances for the Red Devils.

When asked about the significance of the upcoming final, Ten Hag responded, “It is definitely a big game, but I don’t want to make an assessment on what is the biggest.
