Manchester United makes official move for former Chelsea star amidst defensive Crisis
In their quest to fortify their left-back position, Manchester United have entered the fray by formally presenting an offer to Barcelona for Marcos Alonso according to emerging reports.
The urgency stems from Luke Shaw’s sidelining until November due to a muscular injury, while reserve left-back Tyrell Malacia is also out of action for a similar duration.
In light of these setbacks, the Red Devils are actively exploring solutions before the transfer window’s closure on Thursday.

While several options are on the table, discussions seem to be progressing for a potential deal involving Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
Brentford’s Rico Henry and Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon are also under consideration, although the latter’s leaning towards Fulham is evident.
Manchester United’s bid for Alonso appears to be gaining momentum, as per the reports from Catalan newspaper Sport.
The club has formalized its interest by extending an offer to Barcelona. The Spanish champions are open to letting go of the 32-year-old, concurrently working on securing Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo as cover at left-back.

Reports offer conflicting details about United’s proposal for Alonso. Sport suggests a straightforward loan arrangement for the 2023-24 season.
However, with Alonso’s contract expiring next summer, Marca hints at the possibility of United offering a two-year contract—a loan initially, with the deal transitioning into a free transfer in a year.
Initial skepticism about Alonso’s willingness to return to the Premier League has shifted. The former Chelsea player is reportedly considering the proposition, especially if his involvement in Xavi’s plans at Barcelona remains limited.
Nevertheless, complications arise from other interested parties, notably Atletico Madrid. The Spanish giants also have their sights set on Alonso, potentially influencing the outcome of the negotiations.

This is especially noteworthy as Barcelona harbors ambitions of signing Joao Felix from Atletico and could consider Alonso as a bargaining chip in a potential swap deal.
While Alonso’s consideration of a move to Old Trafford suggests some openness, his preference leans towards staying in Spain.
This inclination may grant Atletico Madrid an edge if they officially express their interest and present a concrete offer.
As the transfer window ticks on, Manchester United remains actively engaged on various fronts. Alongside ongoing talks with Cucurella, discussions regarding Reguilon and other options persist.
The club’s decision-making will likely be guided by manager Erik ten Hag, who seeks to finalize several deals to bolster their squad.
