Lazio captain, Ciro Immobile has been taken to hospital after a tram hit the Italy international’s car with his children inside.

Immobile was driving in Rome with his two daughters on Sunday morning when a tram “ran a red light,” he claims. Distressing images of the 33-year-old striker’s wrecked Land Rover SUV quickly emerged on social media before he told AGTW: “The tram ran a red light. Luckily I’m fine, my arm just hurts a little.”

Italian media say that Immobile and his daughters were taken to hospital but are understood to not be seriously injured. Corriere dello Sport report that the Serie A marksman had a bloody hand and may have fractured his shoulder.

The Italy captain and his kids emerged from the car without serious injuries, though he complained that his arm was in a bit of pain.

Horrendous images show the damage inflicted on Immobile’s Land Rover, with the front of the SUV taking the brunt of the collision.

He also has a son with his wife, Jessica Melena, and reports that only his daughters were in the car are unconfirmed.

Police are investigating the incident.

Immobile is a pillar of Italian football, earning 55 caps for the national team since his debut in 2014.

He helped guide Italy to Euro 2020 glory two years ago as Roberto Mancini’s side broke England hearts in the Wembley Stadium final.

Immobile started his club career at Sorrento. Stints at Juventus, Genoa, Torino, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla followed.

After moving to Lazio in 2016, he has become a club icon after scoring 194 goals in 284 games to become their record goalscorer.

Immobile cemented his status as one of Europe’s top strikers by winning the European Golden Shoe for the 2019/20 season, awarded to the player with the most league goals in a single campaign.

He netted 36 times in the Italian top flight, equalling the record for most goals in a single Serie A season and ending Lionel Messi’s run of three successive Golden Shoes.
