FA Launch Investigation Into Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk Video Using The N-Word

The FA have launched an investigation into a video of new Chelsea winger, Mykhail Mudryk using the N-word in a viral Tiktok video.

The 40-second long video, which shows Mudryk and a friend standing next to an Audi sports car, had gained traction on social media after he completed his move to Stamford Bridge this January.

Both Mudryk and his friends put their hands on their chests as they sing along to the song, which features the N-word 16 times across it’s two minutes and 43 seconds duration.

Mudryk had issued an apology after footage of him using the racial slur in a clip prior to arriving at Chelsea surfaced online.

According to The Athletic, an investigation has been launched into the Ukrainian winger’s behavior in the TikTok video from July last year, which has now been deleted.

In the clip, Mudryk can be seen reciting a 2017 freestyle rap from American musician Lil Baby which contained the N-word. The 22-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this month, has since apologized for using the racial slur.

His representative said: “Mykhailo is deeply sorry for any offense caused by the video posted on his TikTok account last July.

“Whilst his intention was solely to recite lyrics of a song, Mykhailo regrets his decision and wholeheartedly accepts it was not appropriate. The video has since been removed.”

He had also previously caused controversy this week after posting an Israel flag on his Instagram story amid the country’s ongoing conflict with Palestine.

Anti-racism group Kick It Out had stated they were “encouraged” by Mudryk’s apology in a statement, which read: “Kick It Out condemns the use of all racial slurs, including the N-word irrespective of context.

“The N-word is deeply offensive and the use of this term by high-profile figures in football can only serve to alienate people from the game. It is important that footballers use their significant platform in a positive way, and we’re encouraged to see that Mykhailo Mudryk has acknowledged the hurt caused by his use of this offensive slur.”

Mudryk made his debut for Chelsea against Liverpool earlier in January, having signed a deal through to the summer of 2031.
