World Cup 2022: England vs Iran – Date, TV Channel, Kick-Off Time, Squad

England will be looking to get their World Cup 2022 campaign off to a winning start when they take on Iran on Monday, November 21 in Doha .
England are in Group B with Iran, USA, and Wales and should be confident of topping it but Carlos Queiroz’s ‘Team Melli’ will be no pushover in the opening clash.
England have had a tough year so far and do not head into the World Cup in great form.
The Three Lions’ last World Cup campaign ended in agony as they lost 2-1 to Croatia in the semi-finals of the 2018 edition in Russia.
But four years on from then, and with a Euro 2020 final appearance in the bag too, Southgate’s men are looking to finally overcome the very last hurdle.
It’s been 56 years since England won their first and only World Cup, and expectations of the team continue to grow every four years.

Iran will be their first test, before further group-stage clashes with rivals Wales and 2010 World Cup group rivals USA.
This tournament could make or break for Southgate, who may view the Qatar showpiece as his last opportunity to finally win major silverware as England boss.

What’s England’s weakness heading into 2022 World Cup?
The biggest criticism of Southgate is his satisfaction at winning 1-0 rather than attempting to demolish opponents. Often this means possession is used defensively rather than relentless attacking waves.
England has failed to see out 1-0 leads in significant major tournament games — the Euro 2020 final (Italy), World Cup 2018 semi-final (vs Croatia), and quarter-final (vs Colombia). They did not have a shot on target after scoring in the Euro 2020 final.
Success and failure at the international level are often considered generational and almost genetic, but England have never been good at holding onto a lead.
Between 2000 and 2020 England had just a 50 percent win rate after scoring first in major tournament games — Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and Portugal all boasted over 80 percent figures.
In 11 Euros, World Cup, and Nations League finals games under Southgate, England have seven wins, two draws, and two losses. That rate (63%) is higher than previous iterations but far from truly elite and not having a third consistent goalscorer (after Kane and Raheem Sterling) does little to help.
Looking forward to a better tournament in Qatar.
