Thomas Tuchel has reportedly agreed to take over as Bayern Munich’s manager after the Bundesliga champions made a surprising decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann.

The former Chelsea boss, Tuchel has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in September 2022 after a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

Despite winning the Champions League a year earlier and making the final in back-to-back years, he reportedly had issues with the new owners at Chelsea.

There were rumors that Tuchel might replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham, but reports in Germany suggest that Bayern swooped in to secure his services.

Sport Bild reported that Bayern had concerns over Nagelsmann and were worried that Tuchel would be appointed by another club if they did not act quickly.

Spurs and Real Madrid had also been linked with Tuchel, who will take charge of his first match as Bayern manager against his former side, Borussia Dortmund, next week.

Nagelsmann, who was enjoying a skiing holiday in Austria during the international break, was said to be blindsided by the decision.

Bayern is currently second in the Bundesliga table, one point adrift of Borussia Dortmund after losing to Bayer Leverkusen.

The club’s hierarchy reportedly became concerned after the loss, despite seeing off PSG in the Champions League, and felt that appointing Tuchel now would increase their chances of winning the treble.

Nagelsmann will be officially informed of the decision in person on Friday, with Tuchel taking charge of his first training session on Monday before facing his former side Dortmund the following weekend.

Tuchel has been living in Munich for the past few months, and while he would have considered a return to London with Tottenham, the north London club may now be tempted to meet with Nagelsmann, who they had tried to appoint before he took over at Bayern.
