Some Chelsea Players ‘Starting To Regret’ Signing Such Long Contracts

Chelsea‘s new signings are reportedly beginning to have doubts about their lengthy contracts with the club amid their difficult season.
The Blues have slipped to 12th place in the Premier League table and are set to miss out on European competition.
Four different coaches have been at the helm this season, and the team has scored just 30 times in 32 matches, the fourth-lowest scorers in the division.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be announced as Chelsea’s new manager soon, with one of his biggest tasks being to reinvigorate a squad that is growing disillusioned with life at the club.
According to The Athletic, several of Chelsea’s new signings are already expressing regret at having signed such long deals, with the project they were sold starting to look like a pipe dream.
Chelsea’s new owners decided to give their signings massive contracts in order to amortize the transfer fees over a longer period and bypass Financial Fair Play regulations. For instance, Enzo Fernandez, the Premier League’s record signing, signed a contract until 2031, spreading his £106.8m fee over eight-and-a-half years, or roughly £12.5m per season.

The new players are believed to be on smaller salaries, with the trade-off being the added security of long-term deals.
However, due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League, they will be subjected to a 30% reduction.
This has resulted in many new signings questioning their decision to commit themselves to Chelsea for so many years, particularly those on the fringes of the squad.

Aside from Fernandez, Benoit Badiashile and Mykhaylo Mudryk also signed eight-and-a-half-year deals, despite the former not being registered in the Champions League squad.
Wesley Fofana, David Datro Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto, and Carney Chukwuemeka all signed long-term deals exceeding six years, many of which include options to extend for an additional season.
UEFA has recently closed the loophole that Chelsea has been exploiting and will limit contracts to no more than five years starting this summer. Nonetheless, the existing deals will not be affected.
