Manchester United superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he was happy to beat Lionel Messi’s tally of Paris Saint-Germain shirt sales when he returned to Manchester United in 2021.

Part one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan dropped on Wednesday night, 16th November and the Manchester United star touched on more topics. He expressed his delight in beating Lionel Messi’s shirt sales after joining Manchester United last summer.

When the club announced the sensational return of their former star, fans could not contain their excitement and it showed through the record number of jersey sales in a 24-hour period. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner broke the record for most shirt sales just days after it was reported he would prefer the No. 7 shirt.

Thousands of fans lined up to get their hands on the jersey. His shirt then became the biggest-selling player ever in the 24-hour period that followed his transfer back to Old Trafford, according to the Mirror. He surpassed Lionel Messi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.

During the interview, Piers brought up Ronaldo’s remarkable popularity when it comes to shirt sales.

He said: “Two things happened within 24 hours of you re-signing for United.

“One – you broke the all-time record for shirt sales in 24 hours… you actually beat a guy called Messi, you must have been happy about that?”

Ronaldo was delighted that he achieved that by providing a great answer, according to the Sun. “Of course, I am happy [laughs]. As you know, I do not follow the records, the records follow me. Another one in my book.”

Ronaldo’s return to the club also broke several social media records. The Instagram post announcing his return became,e the most liked post by a sports team, according to Goal. It garnered close to 13 million likes.
