Nigerians cry out amid rumours of hike in petrol price from 600 to N1,200/litre
Nigerians have taken to social media to express their anguish, amid rumours that petrol could sell for N1,200/litre.
Oil marketers have noted that the subsidy on petrol was increasing considering the crash of the naira against the United States dollar and the cost of crude oil, stressing that PMS should sell for N1,200/litre in a free market.
On Tuesday, the local currency closed at 998/dollar at the official market, while it traded at 1,225/dollar at the black market.
Petrol, which is solely imported into Nigeria by the NNPCL, currently sells for between N617/litre to N660/litre, depending on the location of purchase in Nigeria.
Below are some of the reactions garnered from Nigerians on X:
@blackpride22: Them wan do that #ojoro again o. #Fuel is going to #1200, we will scream and shout, their toy #NLC will threaten strike, then they will go back and forth and put it at between ₦800-₦1000, then #Nigerians in our myopic mindset will rest with the reality.
Ojoro continues😂🤣😂
@Perazimkel: This was the only sin of GEJ, they capitalize on his January 1st 2012 removal of subsidy. These present APC thugs took over the streets of Nigeria and unleashed the greatest protest ever. Today they are playing games with the same subsidy. Na thunder go fire una
@NarrativeNestor: The patience of Nigerians in the face of rising fuel costs is scary. Pump prices hitting 1200? I wonder what the breaking point will be, how much more Nigerians could endure before, ‘enough is enough’? The implications of the economic strain will surely be profound and far-reaching. When will the voices of discontent rise above the tide of challenges to demand change?
@MaziEzenna: Things are about to get worse 😂 thank God I didn’t go anywhere this December
@Akanni121: Extreme hardship, So this your plan Oga tinubu, Yakubu you and your family will reap this
@thefilmbox1: I know say fuel go everly reach 1k for this administration, but they disappointed me because I thought it would have been before the end of last year.
@Aloefuna1: Nigerians are not serious. Suffer never tire us. If suffer tire us, the oppressor will know and no one will tell them to take to their heels.
For now, let’s be enjoying the suffering.
Fuel is currently 600
Plan is to take fuel to 900.
They leak 1,200 price to the media and the world think it will be 1,200
Nigerians grumble, bicker and threaten revolution. NLC threaten strike action.
FG, marketers graciously reach 900.
APC boys praise Mr. President for…
