  1. Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir, died in Kano State on Wednesday. The Emir’s death was confirmed by the Ajiyan Gaya, Malam Shamsu Isa Kademi.

    According to him, the Late Emir of Gaya died in his Gaya place at the age of 91. He was among those elevated to the rank of first-class Emir by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in 2019. He has been on the throne since his appointment as Sarkin Gaya district head of Gaya in 1990.

    He held several traditional positions such as district head of Kunchi, district head of Minjibir among others. Gaya is one of the five emirates in Kano.

2. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has described the anti-open grazing law promulgated by some southern governors as not implementable.

He accused the southern governors of politicizing the situation.
He said the northern states governors’ forum had taken a position that open grazing is not a sustainable way of livestock production, but ranching.

“But moving towards ranching cannot be done overnight. We have to have a plan; we have to have resources and we have to implement it sensibly. We’ve taken a position as northern state governors and we’re implementing that.

3. Former Emir of Kano and leader of the Tijjaniyya Sect in Nigeria, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has admonished Nigerians to stop cursing their leaders because of the current hardship in the country. Addressing members of the Sect from seven states of the North West in Sokoto on Tuesday, Sanusi expressed optimism that things would change for the better.

4. Governo Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has sacked the Commissioner, State Independent Electoral Commission (KSIEC), Emmanuel Folorunsho Olorunfemi.
Naija News reports that the governor approved Olorunfemi’s dismissal followed the recommendation by the state House of Assembly.

The assembly had earlier recommended Olorunfemi’s suspension during its investigation into alleged gross misconduct leveled against him. After the completion of the probe, the assembly found the KSIEC boss guilty and recommended his sack to the governor.

5. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has stated that it would totally lockdown the southeast if the Department of State Services, DSS, refuses to bring its leader to court.
Nnamdi Kanu’s trial at the Abuja High Court is expected to continue on October 7th, 2021.

In a statement on Wednesday through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB stated that it would lock down the whole region from October 21 if Kanu is not produced in court.

The statement reads in part, “If the federal government refuses to bring him (Nnamdi Kanu) to court in his next court appearance on October 21, 2021, the entire Biafra land will be on total lockdown for one month. The federal government will know that they cannot take us for granted anymore.

“Our peaceful disposition as a people should not be misconstrued as weakness. Nigeria cannot incarcerate our leader illegally and expect things to be normal again. If by October 21, Kanu is not brought to court, Nigeria will know that Kanu commands the unflinching loyalty of over 60 million Biafrans home and in Diaspora.”

6. The Senate, on Tuesday, considered a bill seeking stiffer punishment for the offence of abduction, wrongful restraint and confinement for ransom. The bill titled, “Abduction, Wrongful Restraints and Confinement Bill 2021” proposed a life imprisonment for anyone convicted for the offence of kidnapping, particularly where death results from the act.

7. The Northern Elders Forum says the north is a rich region and can survive on its resources without the “billions” accruing to Southern states. NEF Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made this known on Tuesday during an interview.

8. The Senate has passed a bill seeking to control and manage sickle cell anaemia, a genetically inherited disease in Nigeria. The passage of the bill followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary) at plenary on Tuesday.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, prominent Nigerians have established a third force, Rescue Nigeria Project, RNP, to give Nigerians an alternative platform to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Founders of RNP include former governor of Kwara state, Ahmed Abdulfatai, Prof. Pat Utomi, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, Senator Lee Maeba, Usman Bugaje, Prof. Attahiru Jega, Amb. 10. A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar, has suggested what would happen to Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the party, if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to join APC.

Adar, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Sokoto State, said Jonathan would give Tinubu a good run for the APC presidential ticket if he joins the party. The APC chieftain, however, pointed out that Tinubu stood a better chance to clinch the APC ticket because the party has the majority in the Southwest.
