Mauricio Pochettino Warned of Serious Transfer Blunder With 6 Players  Set To Leave Chelsea

Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf has warned new manager Mauricio Pochettino of the need to bolster Chelsea’s midfield options this summer.

Leboeuf expressed concerns over the possible exits of six key players from Stamford Bridge. Since Todd Boehly’s takeover at Chelsea a year ago, the club has invested close to £600 million in new signings.

However, despite the significant spending, Chelsea finished the recently concluded season with their lowest-ever points tally, securing a disappointing 12th-place finish.

The 45-point gap to champions Manchester City and a narrow 10-point margin above the relegation zone raise serious concerns.

As Pochettino takes charge, he faces a monumental task of reviving Chelsea’s fortunes. While he aims to make his mark on the squad, the bloated nature of the team necessitates player departures.

The first high-profile exit occurred in January when Jorginho joined Arsenal. However, more players are expected to follow suit.

N’Golo Kante is reportedly heading to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, while Mateo Kovacic is nearing a move to Manchester City. Both Kante and Kovacic have been regular fixtures in the Chelsea lineup, making their potential departures a significant loss.

Although Enzo Fernandez arrived in a club-record deal in January, Leboeuf remains concerned about the midfield depth and believes additional signings are necessary.

Reports suggest that Chelsea is targeting a deal for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, indicating the club’s willingness to invest significantly in the acquisition.

However, Chelsea may face further midfield depletion, with Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and possibly Conor Gallagher also linked with potential departures.

Leboeuf’s worries stem from the potential lack of depth in the midfield area if these players were to leave the club.

Leboeuf wants Chelsea to sign more midfielders

Assessing their transfer business, the World Cup winner feels Chelsea are leaving themselves woefully short.

He told ESPNFC: “Of course I am (concerned) because that was one of the main strengths at the time of that club at the time with Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho were at their tops.

“Jorginho left last season, Kante is going to Saudi Arabia and Kovavic is about to sign for Manchester City.

“If we consider that Caicedo is about move in I think they have to find somebody else alongside Enzo Fernandez.

“[Carney] Chukwuemeka, Gallager and maybe Loftus-Cheek are leaving. I think it doesn’t give you too many options to fulfil that spot and make sure you’re going to be competitive and that’s a concern.

“Either Gallagher or Loftus-Cheek should stay to maybe substitute but you cannot leave only two players in that situation.

“Look at Kovacic, he’s going to sign for Manchester City. But Rodri and John Stones are the guys playing normally there, so for me he’s going as a substitute.

“Chelsea have to make sure they are strong in the middle of the park because we all know the battle is there.”
