Mauricio Pochettino Set for Ruthless Chelsea Clear-Out: 11 Players On The Chopping Block

Mauricio Pochettino‘s arrival at Chelsea this summer signals a major shake-up as the club aims to raise significant funds through player sales.

With the Blues facing Financial Fair Play constraints, Pochettino is tasked with trimming the squad and generating transfer fees to strengthen the team’s coffers.

The Argentine manager has already discussed potential transfer targets with the club hierarchy, indicating a clear vision for the upcoming transfer window.

A comprehensive analysis using Transfermarkt valuations has identified 11 players who could be offloaded, potentially raising up to £236 million in transfer fees.

These sales will be crucial in financing Pochettino’s rebuilding project and propelling Chelsea back into the Champions League following a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.

Among the players likely to depart is goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, valued at around £16 million. Although talks for a new contract are underway, interest from European clubs, particularly in France where Mendy previously excelled, could lead to his exit.

Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta valued at approximately £7 million, may also bid farewell to Stamford Bridge, having attracted interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The midfield duo of Mateo Kovacic (£35 million) and Mason Mount (£57 million) could be the highest-profile casualties.

Both players have failed to agree on new contracts, entering the final year of their deals. Chelsea may capitalize on reported interest from several Premier League rivals and opt to sell.

Christian Pulisic, despite a disappointing season, still holds a valuation of £28 million. Similarly, Hakim Ziyech, valued at £16 million, faced limited involvement and saw a failed loan move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The two players were previously offered as part of a player-plus-cash deal for AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.

Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, valued at £6 million, is expected to depart after a lackluster campaign.

Negotiations would be required as the player is currently on loan at Inter Milan, with no permanent option included in the agreement.

Romelu Lukaku presents a more complex situation. While on loan at Inter Milan, the Belgian forward may be given an opportunity for a fresh start under Pochettino.

Though valued at £35 million by Transfermarkt, Chelsea may seek a higher fee given the club-record £97.5 million they paid Inter for his services two years ago.

Other players likely to leave include Callum Hudson-Odoi, whose value exceeds the £15 million estimation despite a disappointing loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen. Loanee Malang Sarr could join Monaco permanently with a £13 million option to buy.

Ethan Ampadu, currently on loan at Spezia, is valued at around £8 million and faces an uncertain future at the club.

It should be noted that while Transfermarkt’s valuations provide a rough estimate, Chelsea may demand higher fees in negotiations.
