Manchester United make 'Mason Greenwood transfer decision' as striker given three options

Manchester United are reportedly considering a loan move for Mason Greenwood in the upcoming season, as interest from European clubs continues to grow for the talented striker.

Greenwood has been absent from United’s lineup for 16 months following his arrest amidst allegations circulating on social media.

In October 2022, Greenwood faced charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

However, these charges were dropped in February of this year. In response, Manchester United initiated their own internal investigation, which is still ongoing at present, leading to Greenwood’s suspension throughout the process.

While no official timeframe has been provided for the conclusion of the investigation, recent reports suggest that a decision is likely to be reached before the start of the upcoming season.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United is leaning towards the option of sending Greenwood out on loan.

Italy, Spain, and Turkey are touted as the most probable destinations for the young striker. The loan move would provide an opportunity for Greenwood to continue his development and allow the club a “further period of reflection.”

It would also give United the opportunity to see how Greenwood settles back into playing professional football on a regular basis. But the report adds that United could still release the 21-year-old, who has two years remaining on his current contract.

Erik ten Hag was recently asked about Greenwood’s position at the club with the United manager suggesting he’s an admirer of the attacker’s goalscoring abilities. “[He] showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [scoring goals for United],” Ten Hag told The Times.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag made it clear that the decision regarding Greenwood’s future rests solely with Manchester United.

Ten Hag had a phone conversation with Mason Greenwood in February, but the young striker has yet to return to the club’s training ground. The situation remains uncertain as United weighs their options for Greenwood’s development and progress in the coming season.
