Premier League champions Manchester City have joined the race to sign Cher Ndour, an 18-year-old midfielder who has been compared to Paul Pogba.

The Manchester-based club will be vying with rivals Manchester United, Juventus, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain for the young Italian’s signature.

Ndour currently plays for Benfica and has primarily competed for their B team this season. However, he made his senior debut for the first team back in March and is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

The 6ft 3in midfielder is already a regular for Italy’s Under-20s and was plucked from Atalanta’s academy in 2020.

United were reportedly interested in Ndour back in December, with comparisons drawn between him and fellow academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho.

However, fresh reports suggest City’s scouts have been watching the young midfielder closely during his time at Benfica and with the Italian national team.

Ndour is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, meaning any club that secures his signature won’t have to pay a transfer fee.

Instead, they will only have to pay training compensation to both Benfica and Atalanta. This makes him an attractive prospect for the top clubs, who are looking for bargains in the transfer market.

While Ndour’s primary suitor was initially Juventus, a move back to Italy is not thought to be on the cards.

The race for Ndour’s signature will, therefore, come down to Manchester United, Manchester City, and PSG.

The young midfielder could prove to be one of the bargains of the century, having already broken records in Portugal as the youngest player to turn out for Benfica’s B team.
