He said ” On Tuesday October 20, 2020, I went to #EndSARS protest at Lekki, before 7pm, the soldiers came and started to shoot, we were told to wave our flags that we shouldn’t move and we were instructed to sit down.
However, the sound of gunshots was too much, that was when I got up and started running because I didn’t want to get hit by a stray bullet. Before I knew it, a bullet hit my leg, I fell and I couldn’t get up again. Someone had to come and rescue me.” He said
The victims mother Temitayo Faleye also explained how the news of her son’s injury got to her. According to her, she got a strange call around 12 midnight and was told her son had been hit by a bullet.
“That day, my mind went to my son. Usually, I would pray before I sleep. On that day, my phone started ringing minutes past 12 midnight and I picked it. The caller asked, are you Lekan Faleye’s mother? I said yes and I was told he had been hit by a bullet at Lekki toll gate.”
Lekan was rushed to the hospital other protesters but was not attended to there as the hospital did not have the capacity to take care of his injuries and was advised to go to another hospital.
He was taken to Grandville hospital where a surgery was carried out but no bullet was seen in the injury.
“It was at Grandville hospital that they did the surgery. They did not find the bullet because it had gone out. From Grandville, I was taken to the Lagos University teaching hospital (LUTH) the doctor we met said there was no bed space and referred me to the National Orthopedic hospital Igbobi, Lagos. When we got there, the doctors said that they would need to take me into surgery immediately.” Lekan said

She was told that there was no other way than to amputate her son’s leg and was asked to deposit over two hundred thousand naira for the surgery which she didn’t have but the doctors in Igbobi consulted among themselves with the help of people helping #EndSARS victims and went ahead to amputate the leg.
“I am struggling right now as I am a washer woman and also sell cooked indomie. The crushes he uses was a gift from someone at the hospital. It was even the donations from strangers that enabled us to transport ourselves from Igbobi to Alimosho where I reside.”
