IPOB accuses DSS of starving, maltreating Nnamdi Kanu
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, weekend, accused the Department of State Services DSS of starving and maltreating their leader, Nnamdi Kanu who is in their custody.
According to the group, the DSS has denied Kanu food for three days running.
The group called on the security agency to, as a matter of urgency, transfer Kanu to Kuje Prisons or any other correctional center, where suspects awaiting trails, are kept.
The group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, stated this in a statement, on Saturday.
The statement read, “We are the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the command and leadership of our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to place the world on notice over the continued maltreatment and humiliation of our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, custody Abuja.
“The Nigeria DSS security agents have decided to use starvation and hunger strategy to eliminate our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the custody. They have continued to confine him to a solitary cell under harsh conditions since his rendition to Nigeria in June. Solitary confinement is not the correctional centre. They should send him to Kuje Prisons, pending his court dates.
“They are asking the Nigerian government and security agencies that is busy granting and releasing bandits and real terrorists every day to transfer our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to a Nigerian prison/Correctional Centre, where persons awaiting trial are kept.
“Nothing should happen to our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in detention.
“Nigerian DSS has denied our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, food for three to four days now.”
IPOB Reacts To Abduction Of Two Chinese Nationals In Imo
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) was not responsible for the abduction of two Chinese nationals in Owerri, Imo State.
IPOB reiterated that it was a peaceful organization seeking the emergence of a sovereign state of Biafra, hence, not involved in the murdering of innocent people.
This was contained in a statement by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful on Friday.
Powerful stated that acts of kidnapping and banditry were not on the agenda of the separatist group and its security outfit.
The statement read, “The attention of IPOB has been drawn to the false allegation and propaganda being peddled against IPOB and ESN operatives that they kidnapped two Chinese nationals in Owerri Imo State.
“We want to make it abundantly clear to the public that IPOB and ESN security outfit have no hands in the said abduction. We are not into kidnapping or abduction for ransom. Such barbarity characteristic of bandits and terrorists is not part of our mandate. We are peaceful agitators for Biafra restoration.
“These efforts to link IPOB/ESN with violence and criminalities are the handiwork of our detractors and enemies. But they will continue to fail woefully because the world knows that we are not a terror group.
“The Nigerian government has recruited sorts of fake ESN and hoodlums to implicate and demonize us but the more they try, the more our innocence is proved. We can’t be a terror organization and still maintain a presence in over 100 countries.
“Nigeria keeps releasing real terrorists who are still fighting and killing their citizens including security agents without reasons, yet at the same time framing up innocent freedom seekers as terrorists just to implicate them and discredit their global reputation. But they will never succeed.
“The Chinese government and the people of China should know that Biafrans are peace-loving and hospitable. We don’t spill blood. We are enterprising people scattered across the surface of the earth.
“There is hardly any country on earth where Biafrans are not residing and thriving with their legitimate businesses even in China. They should check if we have been linked with any barbarity like kidnapping in any part of the globe. How come it is in Nigeria that we will resort to such criminality? This is another propaganda by our enemies to disrepute us, and it must be disregarded.”
Stop playing politics with our members – BNG warns Ralph Uwazuruike’s group
A secessionist group, Biafra National Guard (BNG), has cautioned the Ralph Uwazuruike-led Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) not to play politics with the 19 members of the group recently released by the court after 15 years of incarceration.
The BNG also threatened to deal decisively with anyone or any group of persons that indulge in trading with its name for selfish and financial aggrandizements.
This was coming against the backdrop of the reported claim that the 19 BNG members, including the wife of its leader, Innocent Orji, are members of the BIM.
Infoexpert24 also recalls that the said members were incarcerated in the Federal Correctional Centre in Onitsha for over 15 years on the accusation of violent agitation for Biafra.
However, the BNG, in a statement by its spokesman, Agwu Francis, on Friday, disclosed that it took them three years to force the release of her members, who are not guilty of any known crime under local and international laws.
The pro-Biafra group also said while it was fighting for their release, the BIM did not ask questions or render any form of financial support, noting that its leader did all that was within and outside his powers to force the freedom of the members.
It further opined that it is not against any form of compensation to her members by the Nigerian government but the compensatory process must go through the defense counsel of its members freed by the court, C. I Mezie.
“It has come to the notice that some unscrupulous elements who claimed 19 members of BNG-prisoners of conscience including the wife of Genera Innocent Orji are members of MASSOB or BIM-MASSOB and that gave them right to speak on their behalf or arrange a backdoor compensation.
“These are men without shame. Our members have been incarcerated for more than 15 years without any of them asking questions or sending any form of support. For more than 15 years, MASSOB or BIM did not ask any question while boasting that BNG is toothless and that was why over 19 of our members were then still incarcerated.
“MASSOB and BIM have been boasting over the years that they have no single members of their groups left in detention while giving their respective leaders praises. BNG was scorned; abused and booed because our leader General Innocent Orji was incarcerated along with our 19 members. These unscrupulous elements worked against the release of our members. Supported election when we opposed it shamelessly wants to do money business with our members.
“It took three years of Innocent Orji’s freedom to force the release of these members of BNG who committed no known crimes under any local and international laws. The commander of BNG did all that was within and outside his powers with monumental sacrifices to force the freedom of our members. General Innocent Orji singlehandedly funded the defense team; paid for publicity and everything needed to be paid while in detention and when he was released. He showed exemplary leadership worthy of emulation for history to judge.
“Today, unknown elements are claiming members of BNG are their members so as to use our members and enrich their pockets. With the anger of what we have lost, the years wasted and the pains of oppression; BNG will devastatingly strike anyone that dares to use members of BNG to play money politics.
“BNG is therefore warning agents meeting and consulting politicians for compensation of our members. It is crucial to also categorically state that BNG has nothing to do with MASSOB or BIM-MASSOB and we will decisively deal with any group misleading or playing unhealthy politics with our members to enrich their pockets in the name of compensation.
“BNG is warning all politicians; within and outside Biafra to stay away from wrong channels if they truly want to work towards compensating our members. We don’t oppose the compensation of our members, but any compensation must go through C.I. Meze, our defense counsel who suffered for our members.
“Compensate is a post legal affair and the power of attorney given to C. I Mezie remains valid and puts him in the position of negotiation. BNG is not yet aware of any compensation and our defense counsel has not informed us about any compensation. BNG will vehemently deal with anyone found to use or using our members to organize a backdoor,” the BNG stated.
IPOB threatens lockdown of Southeast over Buhari’s visit to Ebonyi
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened to lock down the Southeast to stop the “planned secret visit” of President Muhammadu Buhari to Ebonyi State.
The group made the threat in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Thursday.
According to IPOB, the president can only visit the southeast after the release of Nnamdi Kanu from the custody of the DSS.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the planned secret visit of Buhari to Ebonyi State. The secret visit according to IPOB intelligence is being facilitated by some APC politicians in the state.
“IPOB will not accept any visit both secret and open, by Buhari to Biafraland while our leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU is still in DSS secret. Our leader has to be released unconditionally before Buhari should contemplate any visit to Biafra land.
“Biafrans will lock down everywhere any day he ventured to visit Biafraland until he releases our leader. He will meet empty streets in Ebonyi or any part of Biafra he chooses to visit without releasing Nnamdi Kanu.
“Biafrans must be prepared to lock down our territory any day he comes here in our region. Buhari has shown that he doesn’t like us. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot be in detention and we are welcoming Buhari in our region.
“Biafrans will sit-at-home any day he decides to come and mock us. He will know that the few politicians telling him lies about us don’t have control over the people. Should he decide to proceed with the planned visit, Ebonyi will be on lockdown.”
Igbo youths should discard Biafra, embrace opportunities in Nigeria: Gov. Uzodinma
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has charged Igbo youths to discard the Biafra agitation and embrace opportunities in Nigeria.
Mr. Hope made this assertion at the presentation of his book titled “Reflections on the Igbo question,” held in the state capital, Owerri, on Saturday.
“What I have simply set out in this book is for our youths to appreciate the opportunities before them and embrace such instead of bemoaning the marginalization of Ndigbo and resorting to violence, which is self-defeat,” Mr. Hope said.
He urged Igbo youth to leverage technology, trade, and commerce to “dominate Nigeria and dictate the pace of development.”
“I don’t want our youths to think that somebody is holding down their destiny. I also don’t want them to continue to be frustrated by the deliberate policies of exclusion,” he added.
This comes amidst agitation for secession in the South-East, which has heightened since Mr. Buhari assumed office in 2015, leading to violent attacks on public facilities in the region and the killing of security officers.
The re-arrest and detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has worsened the situation, making Mr. Buhari more unpopular in the region.
