Fans Reactions To England's World Cup Stalemate With USA

England’s World Cup momentum was halted somewhat after an underwhelming goalless draw with United States of America on Friday night.

Spirits were high after the 6-2 romp against Iran on Monday, but the Three Lions could not hit those heights again, with the Americans the better team for much of the contest.

The rivalry between England and the United States is a weird one. The hatred ranges from petty jibing to purely visceral. It made for a great backdrop prior to their World Cup group stage clash.

After a quiet start, Harry Maguire impressed a global audience with a swivelling dribble in the USA box.

The USA had the better opening chances, with Christian Pulisic hitting the crossbar just after the half-hour mark.

England were poor for much of the first half and were a bit fortunate to get into the break level.

The start of the second half wasn’t much brighter for England, with Mason Mount receiving plenty of criticism.

Three Lions fans were begging for substitutions. They got Jordan Henderson. Mount stayed on the pitch.

But ultimately, neither side could find a goal and the spoils were shared. England are helped more by the point, but the USA will be happier with the performance.

Below are some reactions culled by infoexpert24 from both England and USA fans on Twitter:

@alanshearer Tweeted: Poor from England tonight but not a bad result with 1 game to play. Foden should have come on.

@harrisoniscool6 Tweeted: You know youre screwed when harry maguire is the best player on the pitch

@bigrichinnes Tweeted: A reminder that Phil Foden plays every key game for the best football team on the planet.

But apparently cannot even get off the bench for an #ENG team which can’t string three passes together

@philmcnulty Teweeted: England 0 USA 0 at HT. England really poor for the most part until a couple if late threats. USA the better team and work for Gareth Southgate to do.

@InternetHippo Tweeted: Can’t be a USA fan when we play another country, it’s too easy to own us. You try to talk trash to a British guy and he says like “Oi go pay your deductible mate” it’s over at that point

@ThatChris1209 Tweeted: I want these bums annihilated. i want them to be so ashamed that they never go home again. i want these men driven to living in caves in the forests because they can’t face humanity.

@Capt_Fishpaste Tweeted: I’m not enjoying this England game as much I did the last one.

@Billie_T Tweeted: That half was so bad the officials couldn’t bare to add the obligatory 9 minute extra time

@mellamodev Tweeted: Every second more #19 stays on this pitch, the more I’m convinced Southgate wants out of this job as soon as possible

@TotalUnited Tweeted: I just don’t think Mount is really anything special at all

@swearimnotpaul Tweeted: Henderson to Mount: The scene is a struggle, it’s a race. Also, what you did was horizontal. Don’t be afraid to explore the vertical.

@RossJackson10 Tweeted: You mean to tell me the man who spent £18m on Afonso Alves isn’t an attacking genius!?
This is totally new information.

@DanielSturridge Tweeyed: The American midfield is really good. Them 3 brothers are good technically and cover some ground. I think Musah has some big potential. Really impressed with him.

@OwenM1927 Tweeted: England letting the whole world down against people who don’t know what the sport is called #ENGUSA
