Ten Hag Slams Man Utd Schedule As Marcus Rashford Suffers Injury In Man Utd Win Over Everton

Erik ten Hag has hit out at Manchester United‘s fixture schedule following Marcus Rashford’s painful groin injury against Everton.

Rashford has been a key player for United this season, leading their attack and contributing to their push for three trophies as well as a top-four finish.

The injury occurred just after Rashford had assisted Anthony Martial’s match-winning goal when he attempted to control a lofted pass from Christian Eriksen.

This was Rashford’s third appearance in just six days, and Ten Hag believes that it is an impossible task to manage the workloads of United’s most important players.

Saturday’s game at Old Trafford highlighted the concerns of many managers about the fixture schedule and its impact on player health.

With so many games packed into a short period of time, the risk of injuries is high, and clubs must balance their desire for success with the need to protect their players.

As the season enters its final stretch, managers like Ten Hag will be keeping a close eye on their players’ fitness levels and workload.

United will be hoping that Rashford’s injury is not too serious and that he can return to the pitch soon, but they must also consider the bigger picture and ensure that they do not push their players too hard.

He told BT Sport: ‘We have to wait but it doesn’t look well.

‘So once again that is due to the schedule. It can’t be you play three games in six days. We have to protect our players.

‘Everyone wants the best players on the pitch, everyone wants to see great entertaining football like today but then you need your best players.’

United and Ten Hag were, at least, able to console themselves with three points that cemented their grip on third place ahead of fellow Champions League aspirants Newcastle and Tottenham.

Returning club captain Harry Maguire, making his first league start since early February, impressed at the heart of United’s defence and was delighted with second straight home win.

He said: ‘Yeah it was a really good performance. Really on the front foot, aggressive. We played in their half and didn’t let them breathe. We should have been out of sight so it’s disappointing that we only scored two goals.

‘I think every game we want to start like this, we want to be on the front foot and be aggressive.

‘The first half was perfect apart from being a bit more clinical. The manager wants us to be aggressive and dominate the game. In the second half we were professional and controlled the game.

“It’s great to lead the lads out at Old Trafford and get a clean sheet and get three points. I have a responsibility to make sure the club moves forward and that’s whether I’m playing or not. I feel like my form has been good for England and Manchester United.’
