Chelsea have been accused of taking a dig at Arsenal after they sold Jorginho to their Premier League rivals on Transfer Deadline Day.

The deal is worth around £12 million and Jorginho’s contract at Chelsea was set to expire in the summer but he’s signed an 18-month deal with the option of a further year at Mikel Arteta’s side.

Jorginho certainly isn’t the first player to travel the path between Chelsea and Arsenal with the likes of Petr Cech, David Luiz, Willian, Olivier Giroud, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amongst others having played for both clubs in recent years.

But that doesn’t mean the rivalry between the pair has lessened.

That much could be seen inChelsea’s statement after Jorginho had officially joined Arsenal on Tuesday.

The Blues penned a thank you message to a player who had played for Chelsea for four-and-a-half years.

However, they just couldn’t resist a dig at Arsenal.

In the second paragraph, the statement read: “Many of Jorginho’s best performances came in European competition. He starred in Baku at the end of his first season when we thumped Arsenal 4-1, and the midfielder played a pivotal role en route to Champions League glory in 2021, starting all but one of our knockout games as we conceded just twice and shut out Manchester City in the Porto final.”

What did Jorginho say after signing for Arsenal?

After making the move, Jorginho admitted he ‘can’t wait’ to get started at Arsenal under Arteta.

“I know he tried a few times to get me before and it didn’t happen due to other reasons, not because of my wishes.

“I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest. Everything has happened so fast.

“It’s an important shirt. It’s an amazing club, a big one, and I’m really excited and happy to be here.

“I’ll try to just bring positive energy, hard work and my experience to help the team. It’s what I always bring with me.”
