Reports emerging from Germany indicate that Chelsea Football Club’s management are leaning towards appointing Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager instead of Luis Enrique.

Following Graham Potter’s departure, Frank Lampard has been appointed as Chelsea’s interim manager to provide ample time for the club to conduct a thorough search for a permanent replacement.

The search has led to conversations with both Nagelsmann and Enrique, with former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino also reportedly being considered for the role.

Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently the manager of RB Leipzig, has earned a reputation as one of the brightest young coaches in Europe due to his impressive track record and innovative tactics.

He has previously been linked with a move to Chelsea, with his name frequently mentioned as a potential successor to previous manager Graham Potter.

Luis Enrique, on the other hand, has a wealth of experience at the highest level of football. He was previously the manager of Barcelona, where he won multiple trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.

According to Sky Germany, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart met with Nagelsmann in London last Thursday where the former Bayern Munich head coach presented his ideas.

The report claims that talks were positive and although a final decision has not been made, it’s understood that Chelsea have Nagelsmann ahead of Luis Enrique at this point.

Luis Enrique has also spoken to Chelsea’s recruitment team in London this month, however, reports in Spain have claimed that the former Barcelona boss was ‘disappointed’ by the club’s decision to appoint Lampard until the end of the season.

The Spaniard has been out of work since he stepped away from his role as Spain’s head coach after the World Cup in December.

Tottenham also plan to speak to speak to Luis Enrique as they seek a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte.

Nagelsmann, meanwhile, is keen to have a break following his Bayern Munich exit and could have alternative options to Chelsea by the summer.

Real Madrid are understood to have the 35-year-old on their radar as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season.
