The transfer activity at Stamford Bridge continues to make headlines as Todd Boehly spearheads Chelsea’s squad overhaul this summer.

The American, along with his recruitment team has been busy offloading experienced players such as Mateo Kovacic, Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, and Kai Havertz, while N’Golo Kante also departed on a free transfer.

However, some insiders at Chelsea are starting to express their reservations about this approach.

Chelsea’s transfer policy under Boehly, which heavily focuses on signing young talent, has left certain individuals within the club apprehensive.

Dean Jones, a respected journalist revealed during an interview with The Football Terrace that there are concerns among people close to Chelsea regarding the current direction of the transfer strategy.

He mentioned, “They’re buying 20-year-olds with a vision to the future. There’s no balance in this at all. I know a few people who represent players at Chelsea and work closely with Chelsea, and there is a bit of apprehension about what’s going on right now.”

While there is admiration for the promising young talents that Boehly has brought to Chelsea, there is a genuine concern about the lack of balance in the squad.

Out of the 16 players signed since Boehly’s arrival, only Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Raheem Sterling have been above the age of 24.

With Koulibaly already leaving and Aubameyang expected to follow suit, the squad under Mauricio Pochettino is significantly lacking in experience.

Pochettino, the Chelsea manager will now need his established leaders to step up and guide the team in the upcoming season.

Players like Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Sterling will be crucial in providing the necessary guidance and stability amidst the youthful overhaul.

Even at the age of 23, Reece James can be considered one of the more experienced heads at Chelsea. It is important to avoid the pitfalls that some teams, including Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, have encountered when relying too heavily on a young core, especially during challenging times.

Therefore, Pochettino must draw upon his own experience and lean on the senior players within the squad to navigate Chelsea through this period of transition.

The Argentine manager has successfully guided Tottenham Hotspur using the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane, and it is hoped that he can replicate that success with Boehly’s emphasis on signing young talent.
