Chelsea Announces Christopher Nkunku As First Signing of The Summer

Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the signing of Christopher Nkunku, the French international from RB Leipzig.

The 25-year-old midfielder had previously agreed to join the club on a pre-contract agreement in December, and the deal has now been finalized for a reported fee of £63 million.

‘A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and team-mates and showing the Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch.’

Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, added: ‘Christopher has proved himself one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons and will add quality, creativity and versatility to our squad.

‘He has demonstrated his ability at the highest level with RB Leipzig and France and we look forward to him joining up with his new teammates ahead of the new season.’

The arrival of Nkunku, meanwhile, could hasten the departure of Kai Havertz who has been the subject of an improved bid from Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add a versatile forward to his strikeforce and the Gunners are confident of completing a deal for the Germany international imminently.

The Gunners saw their opening offer rejected last week but have returned with a bid of £55m that has a number of clauses which could eventually see them pay £60m for the 24-year-old.
