Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has reportedly been told that he is free to leave the club this summer.

Since November, the Senegal international has not played for Chelsea and has been recovering from surgery on his fractured finger, which took place in January.

Although he still has two years left on his current contract, he rejected Chelsea‘s offer for a new contract earlier this season.

Chelsea is reportedly seeking to reduce Graham Potter’s squad at the end of the season and has informed Mendy that he is free to depart from Stamford Bridge, as per the Sunday Mirror.

Mendy joined Chelsea from Rennes in September 2020 and quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The 23-year-old has not started in Chelsea’s last eight matches and his last six appearances have been off the bench in the second half.

‘If he doesn’t start then there’s the chance he can be the first change,’ Potter said.

‘We used Kova and Enzo in midfield, that’s a tactical decision, and the front three at Kai, Joao and Pulisic, they’re more dribblers.

‘Conor has been unlucky because whenever he comes on, he’s done really well. He’ll be frustrated and rightly so but we think the world of him. He is a fantastic team player.’

He played a key role in Chelsea’s run to the Champions League final, and has been praised for his shot-stopping ability and commanding presence in the penalty area.

Despite his success, however, Mendy has apparently fallen out of favor with new Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

The news of Mendy’s potential departure has sparked speculation about his future, with several top European clubs reportedly expressing an interest in signing him.

Mendy is said to be keen to remain in the Premier League and could be a target for clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United.

Mendy’s potential departure from Chelsea is a reminder of the cutthroat nature of professional football, where even top-performing players can find themselves out of favor with new managers.

While the news will undoubtedly come as a disappointment to many Chelsea fans, it also presents an opportunity for Mendy to seek out new challenges and continue to build his career at a top club.
