BREAKING: Manchester United Ends Pursuit of Mason Mount After Third Bid Was Rejected By Chelsea

Manchester United has made the decision to withdraw their interest in signing Mason Mount from Chelsea following the Blues’ rejection of a third bid.

Mount’s potential move to Old Trafford has been a subject of speculation for several weeks, with the midfielder reportedly keen on joining Manchester United.

After Chelsea’s final game of the Premier League season against Newcastle United, Mount appeared to bid farewell to Stamford Bridge. Teammates Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell also hinted at his departure, while the player himself evaded questions about his future.

Given Chelsea’s need to address their Financial Fair Play concerns, potential buyers were given until the end of the month to finalize any deal.

There were indications that a transfer could materialize when Erik ten Hag’s side submitted a third bid on Friday, aiming to reach a valuation closer to their rivals’.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s team evidently deemed the offer unsatisfactory for a player with only one year remaining on his contract, leading them to reject it.

According to The Times, Manchester United considers the £65 million asking price unrealistic for a 24-year-old player, prompting them to walk away from negotiations.

The report states that the club will now prioritize Moises Caicedo as their primary midfield target, reigniting their competition with Chelsea.

Securing the services of Brighton and Hove Albion’s midfielder could potentially cost Manchester United up to £80 million. Nevertheless, those responsible for deals at Old Trafford are undeterred.

Taking into account Caicedo’s age and the longer duration of his contract at the AMEX Stadium, the club is more inclined to meet the asking price.

Chelsea supporters were already concerned about Manchester City’s pursuit of Declan Rice, potentially placing Arsenal in competition for Caicedo.

Now, they will have to contend with Manchester United, who can offer Champions League football next season, unlike Todd Boehly’s club.

Manchester United felt they were being charged a premium based on their status, comparing the situation to how quickly and inexpensively they sold Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City

. Additionally, they believed that the £55 million offer was already favorable, considering the amount Raheem Sterling moved between the two clubs last summer.

In addition to shifting their midfield preference, Manchester United is intensifying their pursuit of a striker. Rasmus Hojland and Randal Kolo Muani are at the top of their shopping list, as the club has walked away from any potential deal for Harry Kane, deeming his price tag too high.
