See What ASUU Said On Suspending The Eight-Month Strike

The Academic Staff union of Universities (ASUU) issues statement on calling off Strike.

Finally there seems to be an end in sight to the lingering University teachers’ strike.

Infoexpert24 reports that the Union (ASUU) reacting to the news that it has suspended the eight months strike, revealled that it was still consulting with the Federal government.

Below is a statement made available by the Academic Staff union of Universities on Saturday;

“The Academic Staff Union of Universities, today, says all the branches, which are over 70, will participate in the decision to either call – off the strike or not.”

“We are reporting back to the government on Friday. That is when the consultation will end. The Federal Government yesterday agreed to ASUU’s demand to pay their members’ salary arrears from February to June through the old salary payment platform, pending when the university lecturers will complete the development of its own payment platform- (UTAS).”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities started the indefinite strike in March, 2020 over non-implementation of agreements and resolutions the federal government reached with the union in 2009.

The news of the strike coming to an end, will indeed be a sign of relief because Nigerian students are tired of staying at home for roughly eight months and can’t wait to go back to their different schools.
