Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Arsenal to sign Argentine superstar Lionel Messi during the Summer transfer as the upcoming free agent, Messi would fit in very well at the Emirates as part of Mikel Arteta’s side next season.

The Argentine looks set to depart Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires this summer, having recently been suspended by the Ligue 1 club for an unauthorized visit to Saudi Arabia.

His next move could well be to that same part of the Middle East to rival Cristiano Ronaldo once again, as Messi has reportedly been offered a mammoth contract to leave Europe.

However, should he wish to remain in the continent and compete in the Champions League once again, Barcelona have not hidden their interest in bringing Messi back to the Nou Camp while former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes that he would fit in well at Arsenal.

“Lionel is a very smart player and can be an Arsenal type player,” Saha told OLBG. “He will have to have a manager that realises he is not going to run all day. Do Arsenal [sic] the players that can do the Xavi and [Sergio] Busquets role well?

“With Messi, you will be guaranteed 20-30 goals per season. He will also assist you in a lot of plays. It’s about finding the right balance which will help him fit in. But Messi will be exciting to have in the Premier League.”

Saha believes that it would be “way too soon” for Messi to move to Saudi Arabia, as the 35-year-old has proven that he still sits among the best players in Europe.

He is one of the frontrunners to win this year’s Ballon d’Or alongside Erling Haaland, as Messi has been asked to consider his legacy by quitting European football so soon.

“Lionel Messi is going to Saudi Arabia way too soon. He still has a lot to offer any club. I say the same for Cristiano as well. It will be great for the country to have that attention. In this industry people can be mean, demanding and won’t respect their legacy as much, so they should always try to protect it themselves. Don’t sacrifice your legacy for things you want now. I will never understand why Ronaldo went and I will ask the same question of Messi if he goes as well. Their legacies took 20 years to build, it doesn’t make sense!

“These guys are the best ambassadors of football and for so many children. They are icons who should be respected and protected by the countries that love football.

“They motivate kids and people to work harder and want to play football. They shouldn’t be on display for all those who jump on the bandwagon and criticise them.’’

Whether Arsenal do have the financial firepower to compete with the offers Messi is likely to receive remains to be seen though, but if he does not wish to leave Europe and Barcelona are unable to quell their own money issues and satisfy La Liga then the Premier League may be an option for the Argentine.
