Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta issued Premier League Title Ultimatum

Arsenal has been issued an ultimatum to prove they are true Premier League title contenders with a win over Chelsea today by former Aston Villa captain Gabriel Agbonlahor.

However, Agbonlahor claims that failure to pick up three points will show the Gunners are not quite at that level yet.

The Gunners currently remain top of the table with ten wins from their opening 12 games, edging ever closer to the mid-season break for the World Cup.

They have just two matches left to get through to remain in first until late December, a marker point that could show their true ability to challenge for the title.

Arsenal headed into the weekend’s action two points clear of defending champions Manchester City at the top of the table. Mikel Arteta’s side knows they need to win their final two matches before the World Cup to ensure they are top at Christmas.

Arteta has led his team to successive wins at Stamford Bridge in the past two seasons. However, the Blues are yet to taste defeat on their home patch under Graham Potter.

Agbonlahor isn’t sure how the game will go and admits he can see either side winning. He believes it will be a good sign of how far Arsenal have really come whatever the outcome.

The pundit said on talkSPORT: “This is the sort of game where you expect Arsenal to go and win, confident. But Chelsea, they can pick these performances out.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea won this game. Chelsea have got quality players, let’s not forget, if you look at Chelsea’s squad of players.

“Brilliant result in midweek for them. This is a test where Arsenal fans probably want to see ‘come on Arsenal, can you go and beat Chelsea? Can you go back to the top of the table?’ and it’s probably a test of where Arsenal are and where they can go.

“If they go and beat Chelsea away, you start thinking ‘this is actually a title challenge’. They’re not really coming unstuck against anybody really, yes they lost to Manchester United. But since then they’ve been on fire.”

With their start to the campaign being the first time they have challenged for a while, Arsenal are still under plenty of scrutinies each week to keep up those standards. However, they continue to battle and earn results, even when performance levels drop on some occasions.
