Richarlison ignored Martinelli during Arsenal's win vs Spurs - told him to stop diving
Richarlison was only on the pitch for 20 minutes during the encounrt but he was certainly involved throughout the match.
Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take a giant leap towards their first Premier League title since 2003/04.
As for Spurs, their chances of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League are looking slimmer by the week.
Being beaten in your own stadium by your biggest rivals as they became favourites to win the title meant it was a tough afternoon for everyone associated with Spurs.
And those frustrations boiled over at times.
At full time, Aaron Ramsdale’s celebrations saw Richarlison confront him before a Spurs fan kicked him.
Even before he stepped foot on the pitch, Richarlison was seen clashing with Takehiro Tomiyasu as he attempted to stop Thomas Partey from taking a throw-in.
But that’s not all.
Richarlison was involved in a moment of note with compatriot Garbiel Martinelli before he was substituted on.
In the 55th minute, shortly before he controlled the ball with his back in an act of showboating, Martinelli went over to take a corner.
After seeing his Brazilian teammate stood by the corner flag, Martinelli held out his hand looking for a handshake. But there was no handshake forthcoming from Richarlison who completely ignored him before waving him away in disgust.
The watching Spurs fans cheered before Martinelli swung in the corner.
Take a look:
To be fair to Richarlison, he apologised to Martinelli after the match in a post-match interview.
“I’d like to apologise to Martinelli, I told him he was diving a lot, so I didn’t shake his hand,” Richarlison said. “Also with Magalhaes, I told him they were stopping play all the time, I just said, ‘let’s play.’
“What I really didn’t like was their goalkeeper. He was celebrating in front of our fans, that’s a disrespect to our fans. He should have celebrated with their fans.”
