US gets good news from Trump and FDA following more than 300,000 deaths

Months after US president Trump announced that there would be a COVID-19 vaccine before the end of the year to combat the wave of deaths that had engulfed the country, Americans have been given some good news. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. This has set off what will be the most comprehensive vaccination campaign in U.S. history.

President Donald Trump on Friday had piled pressure on the US drug regulator to quickly approve the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine as America readied to roll out mass immunizations with reports that the White House told the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) chief Stephen Hahn to submit his resignation if the agency does not clear the vaccine by the end of the day. Hours later, the approval was announced by both the president and the FDA.

Trump also promised to make the vaccine free for all Americans, saying, “I am proud to say that we have made sure that this vaccine will be free for all Americans.”

This signals the major first step toward bringing the pandemic to an end. The FDA’s approval brings hope that the country and the world can slowly make their way to recovery.
