1. Super-sub Iheanacho wins Community Shield for Leicester City
Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning goal as Leicester City defeated Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday. It was the first time in 50 years that the club won the trophy- traditionally the first title of every season.

3. Obasanjo Travels To Benin Republic, Seeks Soft-Landing For Sunday Igboho
Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo traveled to the Benin Republic in the first week of August, according to The Cable.
Top sources in the country disclosed that Obasanjo traveled to Zanzibar, an island in Tanzania on August 1, and moved to the Francophone country.
A further report had it that the former President traveled to the Benin Republic in the guise of condoling with Nicephore Soglo who recently lost his wife, Roseline Soglo.
Roseline died on July 25 at the age of 87 in Cotonou.
4. The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) says the number of active COVID-19 cases in Nigeria increased to 9,066 with 473 additional cases confirmed on Saturday. The NCDC made this known on its verified website on Sunday morning.
5. ‘I’ve warned my sons not to join the nonsense strike by doctors’ —Ngige
Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Doctor Chris Nwabueze Ngige, on Friday, referred to the ongoing work-to-rule action by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) as a “nonsense strike.”
6. Chief Yomi Aliu, the lead counsel of Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho has refuted claims that some groups and individuals are sponsoring the suits filed by the agitator. In a statement on Saturday, Aliu also faulted criticism of Justice Igweatu’s bail conditions for Igboho’s aides at a Federal High Court, Abuja.
7. 2023: Wike, Secondus Clash At PDP BoT Meeting
More details have emerged over what transpired between the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, and Governor Nyesom Wike at the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting.
The BoT had called for a meeting on Thursday to find a solution to the crisis rocking the main opposition party which had led to the resignation of seven top National Working Committee (NWC) members.
The seven national officers of the party who resigned included the Deputy National Financial Secretary, the Deputy Legal Adviser, the Deputy National Auditor, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, the Deputy Women Leader, and the Deputy Organising Secretary.
The crisis rocking the party is connected to the jostle for shares of the PDP structure ahead of the 2023 polls by political bigwigs.
8. Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum has reunited an abducted Chibok girl with her mother. In a brief ceremony at the Borno Government House on Saturday evening, Zulum noted that the use of only force in the terrorism war will not achieve the result needed.
9. The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has directed the Muslim Ummah to look out for the new moon of Muharram 1443 AH, on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Abubakar issued the directive in a statement on Saturday.

Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), deliberately wanted to court controversy with his comments on President Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar, and Bola Tinubu.
