Thierry Henry Sends Clear Arsenal Premier League Title Challenge Message To Mikel Arteta

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has spoken out ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Southampton, urging the team to “get rid of the emotion” in order to revive their faltering Premier League title challenge.

Arsenal have surrendered two-goal leads in their last two games, allowing Manchester City to close the gap at the top of the table. Despite ripping Liverpool apart for half an hour at Anfield, they conceded twice to only take home a single point.

In a similar scenario at West Ham last weekend, the Gunners once again let another 2-0 lead slip, dropping vital points in the title race.

Henry, who won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with Arsenal, knows a thing or two about the pressures of a title race. Speaking ahead of the Southampton game, he called for a change in mindset for the team.

“I always say in a title race, you have to control your emotion. It’s important to get rid of the emotion and look at the situation,” he said.

“Sometimes when you’re in the game, you feel like you’re doing everything right but you’re not. That’s why it’s important to have someone on the outside looking at the game.”

Henry believes the Arsenal squad has what it takes to challenge for the title, but they need to find consistency and learn to close out games.

“Arsenal have a great team, they have the potential to do something special, but they have to do it every week,” he said.

“The potential is there, but it’s about getting the consistency. You can’t drop points like they did against West Ham.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a response from his players as they face a struggling Southampton side who sit bottom of the Premier League table later on today.

But the Gunners cannot afford to underestimate their opponents, with Henry warning that every team in the Premier League is capable of causing an upset.

“The Premier League is difficult, any team can win on any given day,” he said. “Southampton will come to the Emirates with a game plan, they will try to counterattack and be difficult to beat. Arsenal have to be on their game and make sure they don’t concede.”

With the title race heating up and Manchester City breathing down their necks, Arsenal will need to heed Henry’s advice and find the consistency they need to stay in the running.
