Roy Keane Urges Man Utd to Part Ways with Error-Prone Star as £40m Replacement Emerges

Club legend Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on a decorated Manchester United player, insisting that the club should swiftly offload him.

As talks of a potential £40 million-rated replacement gain momentum, the stakes are high for the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford has showcased progress, with the Dutchman refusing to succumb to the disruptive influence of Cristiano Ronaldo, ultimately leading to the departure of the Portuguese superstar mid-season.

Notably, Ten Hag’s astute signings, including Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, have injected resilience and determination into a team that previously wilted under pressure.

The Red Devils have successfully secured a spot in the Champions League and ended their six-year trophy drought by lifting the EFL Cup.

With an impending FA Cup final against bitter rivals Manchester City, Ten Hag has the opportunity to secure a domestic cup double.

However, Roy Keane, an iconic figure in the club’s history believes that Manchester United’s progress could be expedited by parting ways with goalkeeper David de Gea.

Keane has previously expressed doubts about the Spanish international and reiterated his concerns on Sunday.

Despite being awarded the Premier League’s golden gloves for keeping the most clean sheets this season, De Gea’s performance has been marred by four errors directly leading to goals.

This statistic is on par with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, whose form has dwindled in recent times.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane called for swift action from Ten Hag, suggesting that De Gea’s time at the club should come to an end.

The goalkeeper’s contract is set to expire on June 30, and negotiations for a new deal are currently underway.

Keane stated, “He’s made far too many mistakes over the years. Manchester United had to improve defensively from last year because they were so bad. The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous; that’s his job.”

The former Manchester United captain further recommended that De Gea should not even be retained as a backup option if the club were to sign a new high-profile goalkeeper, dismissing the notion that the Spaniard would settle for a secondary role.

Amidst these discussions, Manchester United has reportedly set its sights on David Raya from Brentford.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has attracted the club’s interest, particularly as Raya’s current contract expires in 2024, and he has declined to sign an extension.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank recently confirmed that Raya is available for transfer, quoting a price tag of £40 million.

The club’s recent acquisition of Mark Flekken from Freiburg as Raya’s potential replacement only intensifies speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s departure.

While Tottenham Hotspur has also been linked with Raya, their reluctance to meet the asking price of over £20 million provides Manchester United with a potential advantage in securing the goalkeeper’s services.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the future of Manchester United’s goalkeeping position hangs in the balance.

Roy Keane’s unequivocal demand to part ways with De Gea may shape the club’s priorities as they aim to strengthen their squad and continue their upward trajectory under Ten Hag’s guidance.
