Cristiano Ronaldo
Accordong to emergig reports, it’s suggesting a clause could be inserted into his Al-Nassr contract which would obligate him into promoting the tournament in Saudi Arabia instead.
Portugal, Spain, and Ukraine are planning a joint bid to hold the competition at the start of the next decade but Saudi Arabia are part of a rival package alongside Greece and Egypt.
Ronaldo has been on the lookout for a new club since he left Manchester United on the eve of the World Cup getting underway last month. He has been most heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr with the club willing to offer him around £175million per year for regular appearances in the Pro-League.
However, an extra clause that has been proposed for the deal could mean he runs into problems in his homeland. Ronaldo would be contractually obliged to become an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s 2030 World Cup bid bringing him into direct competition with Portugal.
Portugal have already announced their intention to host the competition alongside Spain and Ukraine as the three nations look set to become the one solely European bid. Saudi Arabia also hope to bring the World Cup to the country and are looking to be responsible for the showpiece event with Egypt and Greece.
