Premier League Plot Major Season Changes That Will Affect Arsenal, Chelsea, And Spurs

Premier League clubs are putting the Football Association under pressure to move the Community Shield from its traditional spot as the season curtain-raiser, according to reports.

Infoexpert24 understands Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has discussed the idea of the Premier League holding a ‘North vs South’ all-star game to raise funds and invest in the football pyramid, something that was initially criticized by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

There continue to be new ideas put forward by those involved in the game, most notably the rise and fall of the European Super League which led to fan protests and huge resistance from pundits such as Gary Neville.

One area that is being looked at is the FA Community Shield which continues to raise money for charities and grassroots projects. The fixture takes place on the Sunday prior to the first weekend of the new Premier League season in which the reigning champions and FA Cup holders face off against each other.

Plans to revamp the Community Shield are included in the Premier League’s ‘New Deal for Football’, a plan which also calls for FA Cup replays to be scrapped entirely for third and fourth-round fixtures.

According to The Times, bigger Premier League clubs believe the Community Shield can disrupt their preparations for the season, as well as their lucrative overseas pre-season tours.

The most recent fixture took place at Leicester’s King Power Stadium as opposed to the regular venue of Wembley and several proposals have been put forward which include playing the match as part of the opening Premier League weekend or mid-season, something which would only add to the already existing fixture congestion. One suggestion has been for it to be staged in a country such as the United States or China, to promote the Premier League globally.

Another idea is for it to be an All-Star game, with each Premier League team providing a maximum of two players. Boehly has previously discussed the idea of an All-Star game, but it may be seen as an attempt to ‘Americanise’ football.

The assembled All-Star team would compete against another group of star players from other European leagues. The FA are yet to be approached about the FA Cup replays proposal or moving the Community Shield, with sources suggesting those will be decisions for the FA board to take.

Moving the Community Shield would free up space for a proposed new pre-season tournament in the US, involving six clubs from the Premier League, to be staged across several cities. The Premier League has previously operated the Asia Trophy, a similar summer tournament in the Far East.
