Footballers with tattoos have been banned by the General Administration of Sports of China from playing for the national team.

Infoexpert24 reports that China has instructed their footballers  that they must have their tattoos removed ‘to set a good example for society, as young players are banned from playing for the national team if they are inked

The football administration published a series of guidelines that automatically stop any member of the national team from getting new tattoos, according to Marca.

However, this is not the first time that tattoos have caused controversy in Chinese football after their national team stars were reportedly banned from displaying them back in 2018.

The directive aims to urge footballers to set “positive examples for society”, also advising those who have already tattooed themselves to get rid of them immediately.

The country’s youth team’s caretakers have also been banned from calling up players with tattoos.

Infoexpert24 reports that the Chinese National team will not make it to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and have not qualified for the world showpiece since the 2002 edition in South Korea and Japan.
