#NigeriaDecides: Live Updates, Results And Situation Reports Of The 2023 Presidential Election

Nigeria’s 2023 Presidential Election kicks off today at 8:30 AM as Nigerians are out in force to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor, who will rule the country for the next four years. Live updates of results and situation reports can be accessed below.

Infoexpert24 reports that today, Saturday, 25 February 2023, Nigerians would vote in the seventh Nigeria presidential election and National Assembly elections since the country’s return to democracy in 1999.

This online news platform understands that Nigerians are expected to vote from a list of eighteen (18) Presidential candidates and four thousand, two hundred and twenty-three (4,223) National Assembly candidates, who are contesting for four hundred and sixty-nine (469) federal legislative positions.

No fewer than eighteen (18) political parties are participating in the 2023 general elections, however, some would not be fielding candidates for the position of president. This is less than the 91 political parties that participated in the 2019 general elections.

According to the figures recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there are currently 93,469,008 Registered Voters but 87,209,007 voters out of the 93,469,008 registered voters have collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and would be expected to vote in the 2023 general elections compared to  84,004,084 in the 2019 general elections.

The main contenders in terms of political parties are the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Labour Party, LP, and of course, the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the ruling APC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is flying the flag of the PDP, former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi is the candidate of the LP, while Rabiu Kwankwaso is the NNPP standard bearer.

Other presidential candidates, according to INEC’s final list, include Imumolen Christopher – Accord Party (AP); Al-Mustapha Hamza – Action Alliance (AA); Sowore Omoyele – African Action Congress (AAC); Kachikwu Dumebi – African Democratic Congress (ADC); Sani Yabagi Yusuf – Action Democratic Party (ADP); Umeadi Peter Nnanna – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Ojei Princess Chichi – Allied People’s Movement (APM); Nnamdi Charles Osita – Action Peoples Party (APP); Adenuga Sunday Oluwafemi – Boot Party (BP); Osakwe Felix Johnson – National Rescue Movement (NRM).

Others are Abiola Latifu Kolawole – Peoples Redemption Party (PRP); Adebayo Adewole Ebenezer – Social Democratic Party (SDP); Ado-Ibrahim Abdumalik – Young Progressives Party (YPP); and Nwanyanwu Daniel Daberechukwu – Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Peter Obi Reveals The First Thing He Will Do As President

Presidential aspirant, Peter Obi has stated that when he gets elected this weekend, the first thing he would do is express gratitude to God.

Obi, who’s aiming to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari under Labour Party, made this known at his polling unit in Anambra, as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) officials were setting up for the poll.

Obi also expressed his willingness to immediately start to show compassion and care as President.

If I have the opportunity to serve, I serve the people without stealing their money. It is by His grace. The first thing I will do when elected is to thank God, after which I will start to care for the people,” he stated.

9:12 AM: PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar casts his vote alongside his wife, Titi Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa State, northern Nigeria. “I would love to see improvement“, Atiku addresses the press at 9:14 AM after voting.

9:15 AM: Ondo State Ondo North Senatorial District Akoko South-West LGA Ward 07 PU 008 Accreditation and voting are in progress. Priority voting is given to elderly people.

Atiku votes in Adamawa

Voting ongoing at Ward 3, PU 003, Iregun, Ikenne LGA, Ogun State

Voting is ongoing at Ward 3, Polling Unit 003, Iregun, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State. This polling unit is very close to that of Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

Voting commences at Kubwa polling unit 024, Abuja

The first voter, Dupe Osundele, casts her vote as voting commences at the Arab road water board junction settlement polling unit, Kubwa, Bwari LGA, Abuja (024 polling unit).

Voting yet to begin at VP Yemi Osinbajo PU

Voting has not commenced at Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s polling unit at Ward 1 unit 14 under the coconut tree poling unit in Ikenne LG, OGUN State. It seems they are waiting for the Vice President before the commencement of voting at the polling unit. The advanced security team of the Vice president is presently at the unit.

EFCC officials, policemen force Journalist to delete photos in Rivers

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sighted in a white bus outside Model Primary School, Elekahia Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Saturday morning, forced PUNCH correspondent to delete pictures on his mobile phone.

The EFCC officials were with armed men of the Nigeria Police Force on the bus.

When our correspondent was sighted taking photos, the security agents stormed out to challenge him and forced him to delete pictures on his mobile phone.

The PUNCH cannot immediately ascertain their mission whether it is to check vote-buying or not.

However, The PUNCH reports that a member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe, was arrested with a bundle of dollars along Ana Road, Port Harcourt, very early on Friday morning.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, condemned the action of the security agents.

“They don’t have the right to do that. We are sorry about that. You’re doing your job as they are also performing their election duties,” she said.

Buhari Violates Law As He Declares His Preferred Candidate

President Muhammadu Buhari has violated the electioneering law in Nigeria, as he declared that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is his preferred candidate in the election.

Buhari went on to encourage people at his polling unit in Katsina State, to vote for Tinubu.

Tinubu Arrives His Polling Unit In Lagos, Cast His Votes

Presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu has arrived at his polling unit in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, to cast his vote.

He was joined by his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Having cast his vote, Tinubu said he’s confident of emerging winner in the presidential race.

Sanwo-Olu Votes, Salutes INEC Over Election Process

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has cast his vote in the ongoing presidential and NASS election.

Sanwo-Olu voted alongside his wife, after which he saluted the INEC for a fair process.

Thugs Invade Lagos Ward, Chase Away Southeasterners

Emerging information has it that some yet-to-be-identified thugs have chased away people from the southeast region of the country at their polling unit at Anglican Girls Primary School in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

An eyewitness, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, said the thugs, who wore yellow-coloured shirts, were dozens in number and they stormed the polling unit with dangerous weapons, threatening to hurt those from the southeastern part of the country.

“They chased a Calabar man because he looked like Igbo,” she added.

Voters Complain About Inability to Find Names at Polling Units in Ogba Area of Lagos

While some polling units in Ogba, Ikeja havw began voting process, confusion and arguments rocked some polling units over misinformation and some voters are yet to find their names at the designated polling units.

When THISDAY visited polling unit 020, Kayode Street , Ifako Ijaiye local government at about 10:30am , a heated argument was recorded among voters who couldn’t find their names at the designated polling unit.

Some claimed they got a text from INEC that their previous polling units had been changed and getting there they couldn’t find their names.

A female voter who pleaded anonymity told THISDAY she had been voting in Haruna axis of Ogba in previous elections but got a message from INEC that her polling unit has been changed to 020 and she has been looking for her name for the past one hour.

“This is my first time here. I got a message from INEC but it shows 020 polling unit. They didn’t arrive early and when they came I have been looking for my name for the past one hour. If I don’t see my name I will go back home, “ she said.

Meanwhile, there is no security presence in Thomas Salako, Fadare,Kayode,  Moyo Agoro and Soretire polling units, only an female police officer spotted at polling unit 020 on Kayode street.

Nigeria Decides 2023: Peter Obi arrives polling unit, expresses optimism

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi has arrived in PU 019, Umudimakasi Square, Agulu, Anambra State, for the presidential election.

Obi spoke upon arrival at his polling unit, expressing optimism of victory at the polls.

Asked about his chances of winning the election, the former Anambra State governor said: “I am very optimistic. You can see the positive mood among my people.

“People are coming out to vote to make sure the Labour Party wins.”

NigeriaDecides2023: Results from local governments for presidential, National Assembly elections

The electoral commission, INEC, has begun the collation and announcement of election results at local governments across Nigeria,

Nigeria has a total of 774 local government areas. After elections are conducted at polling units and results are announced, the collation of results is done at wards and local governments before they are done at state headquarters. The final collation of results for the presidential election is done at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. INEC has announced that the final collation would commence at about 12 noon on Sunday.

The results from the local government areas are announced by the INEC returning officers in each local government.
