Lt-General Tukur Buratai (Rtd)
The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Tukur Buratai (Rtd) has said it will take Nigeria twenty years to tackle Boko Haram, bandits, killer herdsmen and other security challenges.
Infoexpert24 reports that Buratai stated this when he appeared before the Senate for his ambassadorial nomination screening on Thursday.
Buratai appeared before the Senator Adamu Muhammad Bulkachuwa (APC-Bauchi North) led Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs alongside General Abayomi Olonisakin (retd); Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd); Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (retd); Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar(retd); and Air Vice Marshal Muhammad S. Usman (Rtd).
Speaking at his screening, the former Army Chief said the intelligence capacity of the army was so low, but now it is first class and its cyber command is a top-notch.
Giving update of his achievement, Buratai said that they have won the communities to their side, adding that It requires a multi-pronged approach and that military warfare is just one aspect.
He said, ”The Nigerian military alone cannot solve this. There should be hospitals, schools, roads and govt presence in these communities. There are so many ungovernable spaces and until these spaces have government presence, it will not be resolved.”
