Manchester United Gives Update On Marcus Rashford Injury Ahead of Newcastle Clash

Manchester United has announced that Marcus Rashford resumed light training on Monday as he continues to recover from an injury that had previously caused him to withdraw from the England squad.

Rashford sustained a toe injury towards the end of United’s 3-1 win over Fulham before the international break and was subsequently unable to participate in the national team’s games, much to the frustration of Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate.

With a crucial match against top-four rivals Newcastle United approaching on Sunday, the Red Devils have confirmed that Rashford’s condition has improved and he has taken a step closer to returning to the team.

“Marcus Rashford has started his recovery at Carrington after sustaining an injury in our last fixture, the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham,” a United statement read.

“Marcus was able to get out on the grass at our training base on Monday but the Reds’ leading goalscorer could only take part in a small session, away from the main group.

“There was no ball work involved for the 25-year-old, who scored his 27th goal of United’s season with a long-range beauty against Real Betis, ensuring he netted in both legs of the Europa League tie with the Spanish side.”

With a crucial match against Newcastle United approaching, Marcus Rashford faces a race against time to recover from his injury.

The outcome of this game could have significant ramifications on the battle for Champions League qualification, making Rashford’s potential absence a major concern for Manchester United.

As of now, United sits at third place in the table with 50 points, just one point ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham.

However, Tottenham has played two more games than both United and fifth-placed Newcastle, who have 47 points.

If Rashford is unable to start, United manager Erik ten Hag could opt to move Jadon Sancho to the left, or involve youngsters Facundo Pellistri or Anthony Elanga.

However, Elanga has recently expressed his frustration with his lack of playing time under Ten Hag, and may need to discuss his situation with the club at the end of the season.
