The Europa League is heading to the final stages as football lovers across the globe look forward to the second leg of the quarter-finals between Manchester United and Granada.
United are the favorites to reach the semi-finals as they host Granada at Old Trafford for the second leg of their quarter-final tie on Thursday night with a 2-0 advantage.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are well on track to finish in the top four of the Premier League and secure Champions League football next season but they are also looking to win the Europa League, as they did in 2017.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have got United halfway towards the semi-final and it would take something disastrous for them not to make the final four.
We can expect a couple of changes from United against Granada, who are having their most successful European campaign ever and are now 8th in La Liga.
United competed in the UEFA Champions League during the fall, defeats in their final two Group H fixtures leaving them in third place on nine points behind Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.
United have subsequently come through two UEFA Europa League ties, eliminating Spanish side Real Sociedad before edging past AC Milan in the round of 16.
Granada have enjoyed a remarkable run in their first European campaign. The Spanish club were runners-up to PSV Eindhoven in Group E before they toppled Napoli in the round of 32 and Molde in the round of 16 with identical results, winning 2-0 at home before losing 2-1 away.
United have won the first leg of a European away tie for the 22nd time, and they have progressed on all of the 21 other occasions.
Manchester United are the only club in this season’s quarter-finals to have won the UEFA Europa League, though Ajax also lifted the trophy as UEFA Cup winners in 1992.
While Granada are the sole survivors of the five clubs that appeared in the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa League for the first time this season.
