Man Utd Dealt A Major Blow As Rashford Sidelined Ahead of Wolves Clash, Ten Hag Faces Dilemma

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Marcus Rashford‘s injury, casting doubt over his availability for the upcoming clash against Wolves today.

Rashford, who has been instrumental for the Red Devils this season with 29 goals in 53 matches across all competitions has been a key contributor in their push for a top-four finish.

However, his fitness concern presents a significant challenge for ten Hag ahead of the crucial encounter.

Speaking about Rashford’s injury on Friday, ten Hag stated, “He has a problem, an injury on his leg, so he is a big question mark for tomorrow,” said Ten Hag. “But we are happy Rapha Varane is back. [Rashford] is doubtful, more than doubtful. So [there is] a big question mark.

“We have players who can score goals and they have the opportunity now to show it. Varane is experienced, knows how to win and will lead how to win, will guide us.”

The return of Varane to the squad after a month-long absence provides some relief for United, and his experience and leadership will be valuable during this critical phase of the season.

Additionally, the match against Wolves could see the comeback of Alejandro Garnacho, who has been training for an additional week and is now available for selection. Ten Hag acknowledged Garnacho’s potential impact, stating, “We have seen he can bring something extra in the team.”

However, the absence of Scott McTominay and Tom Heaton is expected to continue, while Donny van de Beek and Lisandro Martinez have been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

With just four matches remaining, United’s pursuit of securing a Champions League spot has hit a stumbling block with consecutive defeats. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s impressive six-match winning streak has intensified the competition for a top-four finish.

Reflecting on the situation, ten Hag emphasized the importance of focusing on the upcoming opponents, stating,

“It’s clear, we know that, but it’s not important because we have everything in our hands. We must bring our performance, then it’s not important. What is important is the opponent we face tomorrow: Wolves. “We have to take them seriously. They have done a great job, focus on that but they also have deficits, take advantage of that.”

The manager highlighted the significance of treating the Wolves match seriously, acknowledging their strong performance while identifying areas of weakness to exploit.

United’s remaining fixtures include an away game against in-form Bournemouth, followed by home matches against Chelsea and Fulham. Their demanding campaign will conclude with the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3.

As the season nears its climax, the availability of key players like Rashford will play a vital role in determining United’s success in securing a coveted top-four finish and potentially lifting the FA Cup trophy.
