Jurgen Klopp releases emotional statement as he prepares to leave Liverpool [Video]

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season in an emotional announcement made on Thursday 26th January 2023.

Infoexpert24 reports that the German boss confirmed his decision to end his historic nine-year tenure at Anfield with an emotional recorded statement.

“Yeah, I have to [explain]. I will leave the club at the end of the season,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website in a video posted on social media.

“I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people at this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously, I can explain it, or at least try to explain it.

“I love absolutely everything about this club. I love everything about the city. I love everything about our supporters. I love the team. I love the staff. I love everything.

“That I still take this decision, it shows you that I’m convinced it’s one I have to take. It is that I am… how can I say this? I’m running out of energy.

“I have no problem now, obviously. I think I know it already for longer that I will have to announce that at one point.

“But, I’m absolutely fine now. But I also know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.

“And, after all the years we had together and after all the time we spent together, and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you, and the last thing I owe you is the truth, and that’s the truth.”

Other coaching crew stepping down with Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool have confirmed that assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as elite development coach Vitor Matos, will join Klopp in stepping down from their roles.

Lijnders is said to be ready to start his own career in management, having previously been touted as Klopp’s potential successor at Anfield.

Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager in October 2015, reaching the Europa League final in his maiden campaign, and was contracted on Merseyside until 2026.

The 56-year-old guided Liverpool to their first-ever Premier League success – and their first league title in 30 years – in 2020.

He also lifted the Champions League the previous season and managed the Reds in two further finals in 2018 and 2022.

Klopp completed the domestic cup double in the 2021/22 season, winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He has also added the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FA Community Shield to his trophy cabinet
