Harry Kane Told His Trophy Drought Could Continue If He Moves To Man Utd

Speculations surrounding Harry Kane’s future continue to circulate, with the Tottenham striker being warned that a move to Manchester United won’t necessarily guarantee him his first major trophy.

Despite his impressive record of 213 Premier League goals, placing him second on the all-time list behind Alan Shearer, the England captain has yet to win any significant silverware.

With Tottenham currently in a state of disarray, lacking both a manager and a sporting director, Kane has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag, eyeing United’s return to the Champions League next season, has made the 29-year-old his top target, while Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti also holds admiration for Kane.

However, Sky pundit Paul Merson has urged caution regarding Kane’s aspirations, suggesting that joining Manchester United might not guarantee him the trophies he desires.

Merson stated in his Sky column, “He has to leave Tottenham now, otherwise he’s never leaving because Man City have got Erling Haaland and United and Chelsea need to buy a centre-forward this summer. So, by the time Kane is a free transfer at the end of next season, everyone will have a striker.”

While acknowledging the need for Kane to win trophies, Merson emphasized that Manchester City is currently the only club that can provide that guarantee.

He expressed skepticism that Kane’s move to Manchester United would secure immediate success.

With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the potential takeover at Old Trafford, Manchester United is yet to make a formal bid for Kane.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is expected to demand a price tag exceeding £100 million for their star player, despite the risk of losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

Merson also highlighted Kane’s personal circumstances as a potential obstacle to any transfer, considering his commitment to family and his strong affinity for Tottenham.

He concluded, “You’ve got to weigh up this stuff as well. Everyone just looks at the footballer. He’s a family man and Tottenham through and through. I’d be quite shocked if he did leave.”
