Kai Havertz's Expression After Winning Player of The Match Goes Viral
The Chelsea star entered the fray in the 67th minute to replace David Raum, when Germany were trailing Costa Rica 2-1.
Havertz scored two crucial goals to give Germany all three points on Thursday, but they weren’t enough for Hansi Flick’s side to overturn a shock defeat to Japan in their opening game and a draw with Spain on Sunday.
The 23-year-old forward – who came on as a substitute for Germany in their last stand at the Al Bayt Stadium – was awarded Player of the Match for his impactful performance, meaning he had to go undergo post-game media duties before flying home from Qatar. But his Man of the match photo got fans talking.
Germany went into their final group game knowing their fate was not necessarily in their own hands. Japan’s historic 2-1 win over favorites Spain meant Germany finished the group in third, with Japan winning one of the toughest groups in Qatar.

Costa Rica, who were considered underdogs in the game, had taken a shock lead in the second half thanks to goals from Yeltsin Tejeda and Juan Pablo Vargas.
substitute Niclas Fullkrug added a last-minute fourth, but it proved to be futile as the other result in Group E, where Japan surprisingly beat Spain, meant Germany’s victory was not enough to see them through.
For Havertz, he can look back at the game with some pride as he came on to completely turn his nation’s fortunes around, at least for that one match.
His cameo earned him a player of the match award, but a photo of the Chelsea man receiving his accolade left fans disheartened.
