Fans Not Happy With Gary Neville’s Pick As He Tells Chelsea Who They Should Appoint To Replace Graham Potter

Gary Neville former Manchester United defender, and football pundit has weighed in on the debate about who Chelsea should appoint as their next permanent manager following the sacking of Graham Potter on Sunday.

The former Brighton boss was dismissed after just seven months in charge, with the club struggling in 11th place in the Premier League.

Now, club owner Todd Boehly is on the hunt for a new manager to take the reins at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on Monday Night Football ahead of Everton’s match against Tottenham, Sky Sports pundit Neville backed former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino for the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

“Everything Boehly is saying is that they have done their spending,” said Neville.

“They have spent £600m and they have done their spending apart from a centre-forward for the next three years.

“If they sign [Zinedine] Zidane, [Diego] Simeone, or [Luis] Enrique they are going to want another £300m because they won’t like some of the players they have signed.

“They have got to appoint a manager who is going to inherit and like the squad that they have.

“I think that man, because of a lot of them are young, is Pochettino.”

Pochettino has been without a role since he was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last summer after just 18 months in charge of the French club.

He was strongly linked with the Manchester United job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure last season but the Premier League club opted to appoint Erik ten Hag instead.

Whoever the club decides to bring in, they will have their work cut out for them in trying to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.

With just 10 Premier League fixtures remaining, the team will need to start winning matches if they hope to climb the table and secure a European spot for next season.

Neville’s choice has divided opinion on social media, with some fans keen to see Pochettino at the club and others reluctant to appoint a former Spurs manager.

“I think on a footballing level he’s the best choice. But I think would the board really want to risk getting a manager in that the fans will immediately hate Who ever comes in will struggle at first especially if it’s this season,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

Another user was less enthusiastic, stating, “A failed manager giving advice on another failed manager, LOL.”

A third user commented, “The last thing Neville wants is Chelsea to become a powerhouse again! He’s trolling hard.”

Meanwhile, a fourth user simply said, “No, we’re good.”
