Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has responded to speculations suggesting that West Ham United could abandon negotiations with Arsenal over the transfer of Declan Rice at the eleventh hour.
The 24-year-old midfielder appears poised to become Mikel Arteta’s second signing of the summer window, following Arsenal’s agreement with West Ham on a staggering £105 million deal.
This substantial fee consists of an initial payment of £100 million, along with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons, effortlessly surpassing Arsenal’s previous transfer record of £72 million spent on Nicolas Pepe in 2019.

If the deal progresses, Rice will follow in the footsteps of Kai Havertz, who recently completed his £65 million move from Chelsea to Arsenal.
While personal terms between Rice and Arsenal have reportedly been settled, discussions with West Ham regarding the payment structure have allegedly hit a snag due to complications surrounding the timing of installments.
Nevertheless, Romano has weighed in on the situation, swiftly debunking suggestions that West Ham would withdraw from the negotiations.
Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, affirmed that Rice’s move to Arsenal is “really close” and urged fans to remain patient amid ongoing discussions.

Addressing the rumors circulating on social media, Romano stated, “The rumours that circulated today on social media about Arsenal or West Ham walking away from the deal, at the moment, I’m told this is not correct while I’m speaking,” said the Italian. “The medical has not been booked yet, but it will happen in the next days if everything goes to plan. So, no worries, Arsenal fans. Declan Rice is really close and it’s about the final discussions on the payment terms to get it done. Be patient.”
As Arsenal enthusiasts eagerly await the potential addition of Declan Rice to their squad, it seems that West Ham’s reported intention to back out of the deal holds little truth.
Romano’s insights provide reassurance that negotiations are progressing, with the medical examination expected to take place shortly.
