Fabrizio Romano Gives Worrying Update Over Arsenal Star’s Future At The Emirates

Transfer specialist and journalist, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the future of Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is in doubt with talks over a new deal yet to reach an advanced stage.

Arsenal is currently leading contenders for the Premier League title and if they are to keep challenging beyond this season then keeping hold of their best players will be vital.

One player who could leave in the summer due to his contract expiring is academy graduate Reiss Nelson.

The 23-year-old has only made seven appearances for Mikel Arteta‘s side this season after suffering an injury back in December during a friendly with Juventus.

He could become a key player for the Gunners in the second part of the season due to the absence of Gabriel Jesus and Emile Smith Rowe.

Nelson’s contract runs out in June, and Arsenal won’t want to see a player with such great potential leave for free.

According to Romano, his future still hasn’t been decided, and several clubs would be interested in taking him in the summer.

In a post on social media, the Italian journalist said: “Reiss Nelson’s future, still not decided as talks over a new deal with Arsenal are not advanced at this stage – his contract expires in June with many clubs interested.”

His most influential campaign to date came in 2019/20, when he made 22 appearances as Arsenal lifted the FA Cup in Arteta’s first season in charge.

In an interview with football.london back in December, Nelson revealed that he would like to stay at the club beyond his current deal.

He said: “I’ve been here since I was eight and Arsenal is all I know. I’m only a couple of minutes from the stadium, all my family is there. So of course I’d love to stay.”

Injuries have set him back this season but he remained upbeat about his future at the Emirates.

He added: “Of course injuries are just a minor setback, but of course, I just look towards the future and hopefully I can play many more years at the club.”

It’s clear he wants to remain an Arsenal player and fans will be hoping he can reach an agreement with the club soon.
